The Main theme of the poem “The Caged Bird” is hope. For example, “The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom.” This third verse says his tune is heard on a distant hill, meaning there is hope of somebody rescuing him. The poem also has a vision of sorrow that the free bird is unaware of.
The Hiding Place’s main theme is having faith through challenges. The main character Corrie has to have faith in God even though she goes through the toughest challenges a human can face. Her Father dying, having to save the Jews’s lives from the Nazis, and going through years of sorrow in concentration camps during the war. She had to put her faith in God to give her strength, and hope of stuff to come.
A similar thing about these stories is that there is hope through darkness. There is the hope of someday escaping the dark place where they are kept against their will. What makes the Hiding Place different is that it’s about putting your faith in God, not yourself.
We all know how the caged bird longed for freedom “The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom. The caged bird longed for things unknown and the bird was singing about freedom. “Oh, this was the great ploy of Satan in that kingdom of his: to display such blatant evil one could almost believe one’s own secret sin didn’t matter.” This quote from the hiding place says that it is tough to have thankfulness, forgiveness, and godliness when your freedom is kept from you but it is easy to hate, blame, and have selfishness.
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. This states that the Lord has given us liberty through the Holy Spirt. So remember that even if you are a slave you have freedom when you pass through the gates of heaven.
