Caged Bird and Hiding Place Similarities – By Jude

In Maya Angelou’s poem “The Caged Bird,” the main idea is about birds and freedom. It talks about a bird that is free, flying in the sky and enjoying the wind and sun. But there is another bird that is stuck in a cage, unable to fly or see the world. This bird can only sing, expressing its longing for freedom.

“The Hiding Place” is a book about a family helping others during the Holocaust. The main idea is about being strong and hopeful even when life is hard. It shows how people can be brave and kind, even when they are scared or in danger.

Both the poem and the book are about being strong and hopeful in tough times. They show that even when things are hard, we can still find ways to feel free and hopeful.

In “The Caged Bird,” it says, “The caged bird sings of freedom,” showing that even though the bird is trapped, it still dreams of being free. In “The Hiding Place”, there’s a part that says, “You can never learn that Christ is all you need, until Christ is all you have,” meaning that sometimes we only realize how strong we are when we have to rely on our faith.

The Bible also talks about freedom, saying in Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” This means that through faith, we can find a kind of freedom that helps us stay strong even when things are tough.

I liked how you described the main themes of the people and the book.

I noticed you put in a great quote from The Hiding Place, I really liked it.

I wondered if there were two birds in the poem or if there was one. I thought there was one, but I might be wrong.

I would suggest writing more on how The Hiding Place and Caged Bird are similar and different.

Strong words or phrases were, Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” This means that through faith, we can find a kind of freedom that helps us stay strong even when things are tough.

I noticed that Elijah used the same bible verse as you (it’s a good one)

I liked how you described The Hiding Place as “a book about a family helping others during the Holocaust. The main idea is about being strong and hopeful even when life is hard. It shows how people can be brave and kind, even when they are scared or in danger.”

I wondered what you would rate this book

I would suggest I didn’t see anything wrong

strong words or phrases meaning that sometimes we only realize how strong we are when we have to rely on our faith.

I noticed: You had a great explanation for what the book and poem were about.

I liked: You explanation of things, it was very clear. And your choice of bible verse.

I would suggest: italicizing your book title instead of putting them in quotation marks.

I wondered: If you thought there were any other themes present in the book and poem besides freedom?

Strong words, phrases, or literary devices were: “They show that even when things are hard, we can still find ways to feel free and hopeful.”
